Mechanical Engineer Jobs in Charlotte: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mechanical engineer job in Charlotte?
Focus your search on Charlotte's core hiring sectors: aerospace and defense suppliers near Charlotte Douglas International Airport, energy infrastructure firms in Uptown, and industrial manufacturers in the broader Cabarrus and Gaston County corridors. Candidates with experience in CAD, FEA analysis, or product lifecycle management stand out locally. Networking through Charlotte's manufacturing and engineering trade associations also helps, since many roles are filled before they are widely posted.
Which companies hire mechanical engineers in Charlotte?
Charlotte mechanical engineer roles are posted by Zachry, ENFRA, and Siemens Energy and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Charlotte's employer mix ranges from large aerospace and energy companies to mid-size industrial manufacturers and engineering consulting firms serving the Southeast region.
Are there remote mechanical engineer jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, though remote work is limited for hands-on roles requiring lab access, prototyping, or on-site testing, and more available for design, analysis, and systems engineering positions. About 17% of mechanical engineer openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Systems and structural analysis roles linked to Charlotte's aerospace and energy employers are the most likely to offer flexible or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get a mechanical engineer job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charlotte is targeting co-op and rotational programs at the area's larger aerospace suppliers and energy infrastructure companies, which actively recruit from nearby engineering programs at UNC Charlotte and NC State. Entry-level roles with titles like junior mechanical engineer, manufacturing engineer, or quality engineer are common stepping stones. Familiarity with SolidWorks or AutoCAD and any hands-on lab or internship experience gives candidates a concrete edge in a market that values applied skills quickly.
