JOB SUMMARY
The Sr. New Product Development Engineer is responsible for developing, evaluating, and modifying new product designs in support of customer and product requirements. This position is also responsible to ensure designs efficiently utilize quality and cost effective materials, accounts for production capabilities, as well as supports the company commitment to producing top quality, durable bedding. This role also takes on a leadership position within the New Product Development group, that provides mentoring, training, and guidance to junior engineers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND KEY RESULTS AREA:
- Uses technical knowledge to create product specifications, ensure product meets specifications and customer requirements, including stack up and design rules, EHS safety guidelines, component and cover specifications, design and aesthetics.
- Responsible for ensuring the compliance to the NPD tollgate process; will collaborate with other functional resources at each step of the process and report-out at tollgate presentations.
- Validate and determine all component and prototype specifications; develop bill of materials, including raw materials and time requirements.
- Collaborate with Strategic Sourcing on raw material resources and options.
- Perform DFMEAs, component and prototype trials, durability and functionality testing, EHS testing, to ensure product meets the full range of requirements; troubleshoot and resolve issues as required to ensure product meets testing requirements.
- Work with marketing to develop claims and substantiate through validation testing.
- Perform pilot testing to determine the validity of the design through the manufacturing process, report-out and design review and product validation.
- Actively participates in technical product development teams dedicated to ensuring the product is meeting the organization's key metrics for performance, margin, and consumer and retailer satisfaction.
- Support new production processes and launches to ensure product is manufactured according to design, safety, and quality specifications.
- Assists in NPD initiatives, communicates with NPD team and other resources as required to support product development initiatives and rollout. Provides design and technical expertise as needed.
- Other duties as needed to support overall strategy and success of product development initiatives and rollout.
Other primary duties and responsibilities include the following; however, Management reserves the right to assign or reassign other appropriate duties to this job at any time. SALARY RANGE
$81,000-$116,000

Member of Global Product Engineering as part of the New Product Development team.

To perform this job successfully, the employee must be capable of performing each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements herein are the minimum levels of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Textile, or Industrial Engineering (or other related Engineering discipline).
- 5+ years of experience in an engineering or operations organization delivering and maintaining consumer products.

- Capability to accurately and efficiently work on multiple projects within strict deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills, able to collect, analyze, and interpret data, synthesize and analyze alternatives and recommend the right final solution. Able to think critically to manage multiple changing inputs and resources.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Fast-paced corporate office environment. Regular travel is not expected in this position; however, travel around scheduled projects such as program rollouts may be necessary.
