Medical Doctor Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a medical doctor job in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia's strongest hiring is inside its large academic health systems, which run teaching hospitals and outpatient networks across University City and North Philadelphia. Subspecialty experience in oncology, cardiology, or neurology opens more doors than a general practice background at those institutions. Community health centers and federally qualified health centers in neighborhoods like Kensington and South Philadelphia also hire actively and value bilingual Spanish skills as a clear differentiator.
Which companies hire medical doctors in Philadelphia?
Companies currently hiring medical doctors in Philadelphia include Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and Penn Medicine, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Philadelphia's employer mix skews heavily toward research-affiliated health systems, multispecialty physician groups, and Children's Hospital-affiliated practices serving one of the densest pediatric care markets in the Northeast.
Are there remote medical doctor jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though remote roles are rare for clinical positions that require in-person patient care and are more common in telemedicine, utilization review, and medical consulting. About 100% of medical doctor openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the city's growing telehealth infrastructure. Utilization management and insurance medical director roles based in Philadelphia tend to offer the most location flexibility.
How can I get a medical doctor job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is through a residency or fellowship program at one of the city's academic medical centers, which frequently convert trainees into attending staff. Community health centers and urgent care networks throughout neighborhoods like West Philadelphia and Fishtown hire early-career physicians and offer structured mentorship. Moonlighting during residency at Philadelphia-area hospital systems also builds local relationships that accelerate a full-time offer.
Which industries hire the most medical doctors in Philadelphia?
Most medical doctor openings in Philadelphia sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Philadelphia's role as a major academic medicine hub, anchored by multiple research universities and nationally ranked hospitals, means those sectors consistently drive the largest share of physician hiring across the city.
