Network Technician Jobs in North Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a network technician in North Dakota?
North Dakota does not require a state-issued license to work as a network technician, so the path runs through education and industry certification. Most employers in the state expect at least an associate degree in information technology or a related field from a school such as Bismarck State College or North Dakota State College of Science, paired with a CompTIA Network+ certification. Gaining experience through internships with state agencies, healthcare systems, or energy companies gives candidates a practical edge in the local market.
Which companies hire network technicians in North Dakota?
Companies currently hiring network technicians in North Dakota include CVS Health, PTx Trimble, and Applied Digital, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. North Dakota's largest employers in healthcare, energy, and state government tend to maintain ongoing IT infrastructure needs that produce consistent openings for network technicians year-round.
Which North Dakota cities have the most network technician jobs?
Bismarck, Fargo, and Center are the North Dakota cities with the most network technician openings. Fargo leads because of its concentration of healthcare systems, financial services firms, and technology companies, while Bismarck drives demand through state government agencies and regional energy headquarters, and Grand Forks generates openings through the University of North Dakota and Altru Health System.
Are there remote network technician jobs in North Dakota?
Yes, but they're relatively uncommon. Network technician work is heavily hands-on, requiring physical access to hardware, cabling, and on-site infrastructure, which limits how much of the role can be done remotely. About 0% of network technician openings tied to North Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. The tasks most likely to be performed remotely include network monitoring, configuration management, and tier-one troubleshooting for organizations with distributed sites.
How can I get hired as a network technician in North Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an IT support or help desk role with a large North Dakota employer, which provides exposure to the network infrastructure that leads to a technician position. Bismarck State College and North Dakota State College of Science both offer two-year programs with practicum placements at regional employers. Earning a CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification before applying strengthens any entry-level application, and targeting the IT departments of Sanford Health, Essentia Health, or state agency networks gives candidates access to organizations that regularly promote from within.
Where can I find and apply to network technician jobs in North Dakota?
