Occupational Therapist Jobs in Detroit: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a occupational therapist job in Detroit?
Detroit's strongest hiring comes from its dense cluster of hospital systems, inpatient rehabilitation units, and pediatric health networks concentrated in Midtown and New Center. Candidates with experience in hand therapy, neurological rehab, or pediatrics tend to move fastest through hiring. Targeting positions at large academic medical centers and federally qualified health centers in the city gives you the widest range of openings and the clearest path to a full-time role.
Which companies hire occupational therapists in Detroit?
Companies currently hiring occupational therapists in Detroit include Henry Ford Health, Renewal Rehab, and Pediatric Developmental Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Detroit's employer mix leans heavily toward large hospital networks, skilled nursing facilities, and school-based therapy contractors serving the city's public and charter school system.
Are there remote occupational therapist jobs in Detroit?
Yes, but they are relatively rare since occupational therapy is predominantly a hands-on, patient-facing profession. About 0% of occupational therapist openings tied to Detroit are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be in telehealth home program consultations or administrative clinical coordination roles rather than direct patient care.
How can I get a occupational therapist job in Detroit with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Detroit is securing a Level II fieldwork placement or post-graduate residency at one of the city's major rehabilitation hospitals or pediatric outpatient clinics, which frequently convert to permanent hires. School districts and early intervention programs across Detroit also hire new graduates for contract roles that build caseload experience quickly, making them a strong first step for candidates without a full clinical history.
Which industries hire the most occupational therapists in Detroit?
Detroit occupational therapist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Detroit's strong presence of academic medical centers, a large aging population requiring post-acute care, and a substantial public school system needing school-based therapy services all drive sustained demand across those sectors.
