Oncology Social Worker Jobs in St. Louis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a oncology social worker job in St. Louis?
The strongest path into oncology social work in St. Louis runs through the city's large academic medical centers and NCI-designated cancer programs in the Central West End and Cortex corridor. Candidates with clinical oncology experience, a hospice or palliative care background, or bilingual Spanish skills have a clear edge in this market. Targeting roles at health systems attached to teaching hospitals, regional hospice networks, and federally qualified health centers gives you the broadest set of local openings to pursue.
Which companies hire oncology social workers in St. Louis?
Companies currently hiring oncology social workers in St. Louis include Washington University in St. Louis, Mercy, and BJC HealthCare, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market is anchored by large academic health systems and regional cancer care networks, alongside hospice organizations and community-based nonprofits that serve patients across the greater St. Louis metro.
Are there remote oncology social worker jobs in St. Louis?
Remote work is limited for oncology social workers because the role is built around in-person patient contact, bedside support, and coordination with clinical teams. About 67% of oncology social worker openings tied to St. Louis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to center on care navigation, telephonic counseling, and utilization review rather than direct bedside or outpatient case management.
How can I get a oncology social worker job in St. Louis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in St. Louis is a field placement or internship at one of the city's hospital-based social work departments or regional hospice programs, which frequently convert to paid roles. Community health organizations in north St. Louis, federally qualified health centers, and cancer patient navigation programs also hire at the entry level. Candidates who come in with MSW coursework focused on health or medical social work and any oncology-adjacent volunteer experience move to the front of the line for these openings.
Which industries hire the most oncology social workers in St. Louis?
St. Louis oncology social worker roles concentrate in Education, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Science & Research, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. St. Louis's dense concentration of major health systems, a strong hospice and palliative care sector, and several regionally prominent cancer research institutions drive sustained hiring demand across those industries.
