Oncology Social Worker Jobs in Omaha: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a oncology social worker job in Omaha?
The strongest path into Omaha oncology social work runs through the city's large hospital systems and affiliated outpatient cancer programs, which do most of the hiring. Candidates with a clinical MSW, direct oncology or palliative care experience, and familiarity with multidisciplinary care teams stand out locally. Volunteering or completing a field placement at an Omaha cancer center or hospice organization builds the relationships that lead to full-time openings.
Which companies hire oncology social workers in Omaha?
Companies currently hiring oncology social workers in Omaha include CommonSpirit Health, American Traveler, and Nebraska Medicine, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Omaha's hiring base is anchored by academic medical centers, regional hospital networks, and nonprofit hospice and palliative care organizations that maintain dedicated oncology social work teams.
Are there remote oncology social worker jobs in Omaha?
Yes, though opportunities are limited given the hands-on, patient-facing nature of oncology social work. About 38% of oncology social worker openings tied to Omaha are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, primarily in care coordination, telehealth counseling, and case management roles. Fully on-site positions remain the norm for inpatient and clinical settings across Omaha's hospital systems.
How can I get a oncology social worker job in Omaha with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Omaha is securing a field placement or internship at a local cancer center or hospice organization during your MSW program, since many Omaha employers hire directly from their intern cohorts. Entry-level openings at community health nonprofits and home health agencies often require less oncology-specific experience and serve as a bridge into hospital-based roles. Completing a LCSW supervision plan with an Omaha clinical supervisor signals commitment to the local market.
Which industries hire the most oncology social workers in Omaha?
Omaha oncology social worker roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Omaha's standing as a regional medical hub, anchored by its academic health system and a dense network of specialty clinics and nonprofit hospice providers, drives consistent demand across these sectors.
