Operating Room Technician Jobs in St. Louis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a operating room technician job in St. Louis?
St. Louis hires operating room technicians heavily through its academic medical centers, large hospital systems anchored in the Central West End and Forest Park Southeast, and a growing network of freestanding ambulatory surgery centers across the metro. Candidates who hold CST certification and have hands-on experience in a specific surgical specialty, such as orthopedics, cardiovascular, or robotics-assisted procedures, stand out in this market. Connecting directly with surgical services recruiters at the region's major health systems gives you the best edge locally.
Which companies hire operating room technicians in St. Louis?
Employers hiring operating room technicians in St. Louis right now include BJC HealthCare, Mercy, and American Traveler, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The St. Louis market is anchored by large academic medical systems, faith-based hospital networks, and a rising number of specialty surgical centers serving the broader metro area.
Are there remote operating room technician jobs in St. Louis?
Remote work is rare for operating room technicians because the role requires direct, hands-on patient care in a sterile surgical environment. About 0% of operating room technician openings tied to St. Louis are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve surgical technology education, supply chain coordination, or instrument sterilization management rather than direct scrub duties.
How can I get a operating room technician job in St. Louis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in St. Louis is completing a surgical technology program at a local community college or vocational school and pursuing a clinical externship at one of the area's hospital systems or ambulatory surgery centers. Many St. Louis health systems hire graduates into surgical technician trainee or sterile processing technician roles that build the foundational OR skills needed to advance. Volunteering or working as an OR orderly or patient care technician within a surgical unit also opens doors to internal postings.
