Internal Medicine Physician Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an internal medicine physician in Missouri?
To practice as an internal medicine physician in Missouri, you must hold a medical degree from an accredited institution, complete an accredited internal medicine residency, and obtain a license through the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. Most Missouri employers also require board certification through the American Board of Internal Medicine. The licensing board handles applications, verifications, and renewals, and Missouri participates in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact for eligible physicians.
How much do internal medicine physicians make in Missouri?
Internal medicine physicians in Missouri earn a median of about $216,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $173,630 for the lowest 10% to over $438,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire internal medicine physicians in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring internal medicine physicians in Missouri include SSM Health, St. Luke's Hospital (MO), and Mercy, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's large integrated health systems and regional multispecialty groups account for the majority of consistent openings across the state.
Which Missouri cities have the most internal medicine physician jobs?
St. Louis, Chesterfield, and Columbia have the most internal medicine physician openings in Missouri. St. Louis and Kansas City drive volume through their major academic medical centers and large hospital networks, while Springfield's growth as a regional healthcare hub for southwest Missouri has made it a steadily active market for physician hiring.
Are there remote internal medicine physician jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. Internal medicine is a hands-on clinical specialty, so the vast majority of roles require in-person patient care. About 17% of internal medicine physician openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telemedicine, utilization review, or insurance-based case management rather than direct primary care.
How can I get hired as an internal medicine physician in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to Missouri's large health systems during or immediately after residency, as BJC HealthCare, Mercy, and Saint Luke's all recruit new graduates through structured onboarding and transitional employment programs. Hospitalist positions and employed outpatient roles at federally qualified health centers across rural Missouri are often more accessible to early-career physicians than private-practice partnerships. Completing your Missouri licensing ahead of graduation and securing board eligibility gives you a clear competitive edge in the application process.
Where can I find and apply to internal medicine physician jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to internal medicine physician jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the positions that fit your credentials and preferred location, and apply directly to whichever ones match.
