Physical Therapy Assistant Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapy assistant in Missouri?
You must earn an associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy assisting program, then pass the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. After passing, you apply for licensure through the Missouri Board of Healing Arts, which issues the state license required to practice. Missouri does not participate in the PTA Licensure Compact, so licensure is state-specific.
Which companies hire physical therapy assistants in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring physical therapy assistants in Missouri include Athletico Physical Therapy, Washington University in St. Louis, and CoxHealth, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's large integrated health systems, long-term care networks, and outpatient rehabilitation groups generate consistent openings throughout the year.
Which Missouri cities have the most physical therapy assistant jobs?
St. Louis, O'Fallon, and Kansas City have the most physical therapy assistant openings in Missouri. Kansas City and St. Louis lead because of their concentration of major health systems, hospital campuses, and outpatient clinic networks, while Springfield's growth as a regional medical hub for southwest Missouri makes it a steady market as well.
Are there remote physical therapy assistant jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapy assisting is a hands-on clinical role requiring direct patient contact, so the vast majority of positions are on-site. About 0% of physical therapy assistant openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to involve administrative coordination, telehealth support, or care management duties rather than direct treatment.
How can I get hired as a physical therapy assistant in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for new-graduate or part-time PTA roles at Missouri's larger rehabilitation networks, such as those operated by SSM Health, BJC HealthCare, or Cox Health, which regularly bring on newly licensed clinicians. Completing clinical rotations at Missouri facilities during your CAPTE program often leads directly to job offers. Candidates moving from physical therapy aide or restorative aide roles gain relevant patient-handling experience that strengthens applications. Holding an active Missouri Board of Healing Arts license on the day you apply removes the most common hiring barrier.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapy assistant jobs in Missouri?
