RN Staff Nurse Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a rn staff nurse in Missouri?
You become an rn staff nurse in Missouri by completing an accredited associate or bachelor's degree nursing program, passing the NCLEX-RN examination, and obtaining licensure through the Missouri State Board of Nursing. Missouri is a Nurse Licensure Compact member, so nurses already holding a multistate license from another compact state may practice in Missouri without applying for a separate state license, though single-state Missouri license holders still apply through the Board directly.
How much do RN staff nurses make in Missouri?
RN staff nurses in Missouri earn a median of about $81,780 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,230 for the lowest 10% to over $104,390 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire rn staff nurses in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring rn staff nurses in Missouri include Washington University in St. Louis, US Department of Veterans Affairs, and Mid-America Gastrointestinal Consultants, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's largest health systems, including BJC HealthCare, Mercy Health, and Saint Luke's, consistently post staff nurse openings across multiple hospital campuses and specialty service lines throughout the state.
Which Missouri cities have the most rn staff nurse jobs?
St. Louis, Columbia, and Creve Coeur account for the most rn staff nurse openings in Missouri. St. Louis leads because of its concentration of academic medical centers and large regional health systems, Kansas City follows with major multisite employers across both sides of the state line, and Springfield anchors the southwest corridor where Mercy and Cox Health operate flagship campuses serving a broad rural catchment area.
Are there remote rn staff nurse jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. Bedside nursing is fundamentally hands-on, so the large majority of rn staff nurse roles require on-site presence in a hospital or clinical setting. About 20% of rn staff nurse openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telephonic triage, utilization review, or case management functions rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a rn staff nurse in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new-graduate nurse residency program, and Missouri's largest systems run structured ones, including BJC HealthCare's New Graduate Nurse Residency and Mercy Health's transition-to-practice program, which are designed specifically for nurses with no post-graduation experience. Candidates who complete clinical rotations at the hiring facility or who move laterally from licensed practical nurse or patient care technician roles tend to compete well. Holding an active Missouri RN license or multistate compact license before applying, and targeting med-surg or telemetry units as the most accessible entry points, gives candidates the clearest advantage.
Where can I find and apply to rn staff nurse jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to rn staff nurse jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings updated in real time. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience, specialty, and preferred location within Missouri, and apply directly to each position that fits.
