OPT Screed Operator Jobs
Screed Operator jobs are hands-on construction roles that involve leveling and finishing concrete and asphalt surfaces. Most employers hire through general contractors, which makes OPT work authorization straightforward to verify. Your 12-month OPT window is enough to complete a full project cycle and demonstrate practical site experience.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship in Screed Operator
Lead with your OPT authorization upfront
Construction employers aren't always familiar with OPT. When applying, state clearly that you have an Employment Authorization Document and are authorized to work immediately. This removes ambiguity and prevents your application from being passed over due to assumed sponsorship costs.
Target general contractors, not subcontractors
General contractors on large commercial or infrastructure projects are more likely to have HR processes that handle OPT paperwork. Smaller subcontractors often lack that infrastructure. Focus your search on mid-size to large construction firms with ongoing project pipelines.
Highlight any concrete or paving certifications
ACI concrete flatwork finisher certification or NETTCP paving credentials signal professional training to hiring managers. Certifications compensate for limited U.S. field experience and demonstrate that your skills meet domestic industry standards, which matters on union and public-sector job sites.
Be clear about your OPT end date and STEM eligibility
If your degree is in civil engineering or construction management, you may qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension. Telling employers this upfront shows you've thought through continuity, which reduces hesitation about investing in someone with a limited authorization window.
Apply during infrastructure project ramp-up seasons
Screed Operator hiring peaks in spring and early summer when ground thaws and project seasons begin. Submitting applications between February and April improves your odds significantly. Seasonal hiring windows are short, so have your EAD and I-20 documents ready before you start applying.
Use Migrate Mate to find OPT-friendly construction employers
Browse Screed Operator roles on Migrate Mate, which filters for employers open to OPT candidates. This saves time you'd otherwise spend screening companies that won't hire international students and puts you in front of employers already familiar with work authorization requirements.
Screed Operator OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Screed Operator on OPT?
Yes, if your degree is in a related field such as civil engineering, construction management, or construction technology. OPT requires that your job be directly related to your major area of study. A Screed Operator role on an infrastructure or commercial construction project typically qualifies when your coursework covered concrete, materials, or site operations.
Does a Screed Operator job qualify for STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not your job title. If you graduated from a STEM-designated program such as civil engineering or construction engineering technology, and your employer is enrolled in E-Verify, you can apply for a 24-month STEM OPT extension. The role itself must still be directly related to that STEM degree. Check your I-20 for your CIP code to confirm.
How do I report a Screed Operator job to my DSO?
You must report any new OPT employer to your Designated School Official within 10 days of starting work. Provide your employer's name, address, and a brief description of how the role relates to your degree. Your DSO updates SEVIS with this information. Failing to report can jeopardize your F-1 status, so treat the reporting deadline as seriously as a visa renewal deadline.
What if my Screed Operator job is seasonal or ends before my OPT expires?
OPT allows up to 90 days of unemployment during your authorization period. If a seasonal contract ends, you have a window to find your next position before hitting that limit. Use that time actively. Migrate Mate lists OPT-friendly construction roles so you can line up your next opportunity before the 90-day clock becomes a problem.
Do Screed Operator employers need to file any visa paperwork to hire me on OPT?
No. OPT work authorization is your own, issued by USCIS through your school's sponsorship of your F-1 status. Your employer does not file any petition or pay any government fees to hire you. They simply verify your Employment Authorization Document, which you present along with your passport and I-20. This is one of the clearest advantages OPT has over visa-sponsored employment.
