Optometrist Jobs in Charlotte: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a optometrist job in Charlotte?
The strongest path into Charlotte's optometrist market runs through its retail optical chains, multi-location private practices, and the health systems concentrated in the SouthPark and Ballantyne corridors. Candidates who can demonstrate experience with specialty contact lens fitting, ocular disease management, or bilingual patient care stand out in a market that serves a fast-growing and diverse population. Networking with the local optometric society chapter also opens doors that job listings alone won't.
Which companies hire optometrists in Charlotte?
Employers hiring optometrists in Charlotte right now include MyEyeDr., National Vision, and North Carolina Primary Vision Care Associates, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Charlotte's market blends regional health systems, national retail optical groups with suburban locations, and independent practices serving high-growth residential areas like Ballantyne and Steele Creek.
Are there remote optometrist jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, but only in a limited subset of roles, since most optometrist work requires in-person patient exams and diagnostic equipment. About 14% of optometrist openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, covering positions such as tele-optometry consultations, vision therapy case review, and clinical education roles. These are most often affiliated with larger health systems or digital health platforms headquartered in or near Charlotte.
How can I get a optometrist job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charlotte is through associate optometrist roles at retail optical locations in high-traffic areas like Northlake or Southpark Mall, where supervising doctors provide mentorship and patient volume is high. Charlotte's independent practices and community health centers also take on new graduates and offer a broader scope of clinical exposure early in a career. Completing an externship rotation at a Charlotte-area clinic before graduation gives candidates a meaningful local reference and firsthand knowledge of the market.
Which industries hire the most optometrists in Charlotte?
Charlotte optometrist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Retail, and Consumer Goods, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Charlotte's rapid residential growth in areas like Ballantyne, Steele Creek, and University City has driven sustained demand from both healthcare networks expanding their ambulatory footprint and retail optical operators opening new suburban locations.
