Family Practice Nurse Practitioner Jobs in North Carolina
Family Practice Nurse Practitioner jobs in North Carolina are concentrated in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro, where large systems like Atrium Health, Duke Health, and Cone Health maintain extensive primary care networks across urban and suburban communities. Demand is strongest in chronic disease management, pediatric primary care, and rural outreach, as the state's Certificate of Need environment has driven health systems to expand nurse practitioner-led clinics rather than build new facilities. Family Practice Nurse Practitioner Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a family practice nurse practitioner in North Carolina?
You must first complete a graduate-level nursing program at the master's or doctoral level with a family nurse practitioner concentration, then pass a national board certification exam through the AANP or ANCC. After that, you apply to the North Carolina Board of Nursing for an advanced practice registered nurse license with prescriptive authority. North Carolina requires a signed collaborative practice agreement with a supervising physician before you can prescribe independently, which most employers arrange as part of onboarding.
Which companies hire family practice nurse practitioners in North Carolina?
Employers hiring family practice nurse practitioners in North Carolina right now include UNC Health, Cone Health, and Duke Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. North Carolina's dominant nonprofit health systems tend to hire in volume across both metro clinics and underserved rural counties where NP-led care fills critical access gaps.
Which North Carolina cities have the most family practice nurse practitioner jobs?
Raleigh, Apex, and Durham have the most family practice nurse practitioner openings in North Carolina. Charlotte and Raleigh lead because Atrium Health and Duke Health operate dozens of outpatient primary care sites in those metros, while smaller markets like Greensboro and Wilmington reflect Cone Health's regional footprint and growing coastal retirement populations that drive steady primary care demand.
Are there remote family practice nurse practitioner jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. Family practice nurse practitioner work is fundamentally hands-on, so the vast majority of roles require in-person patient care. About 0% of family practice nurse practitioner openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and these positions are almost exclusively in telehealth triage, chronic care management follow-up, or care coordination rather than full primary care panels.
How can I get hired as a family practice nurse practitioner in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a formal new graduate NP residency program, and both Atrium Health and UNC Health operate structured primary care NP residencies that accept candidates with limited post-licensure experience. Community health centers funded through the federal Federally Qualified Health Center program, which has a strong presence in rural North Carolina counties, routinely hire new NPs because the collaborative practice structure provides built-in supervision. Holding a current North Carolina APRN license with prescriptive authority and a signed collaborative practice agreement ready to go gives you a meaningful edge over candidates still working through the credentialing process.
Where can I find and apply to family practice nurse practitioner jobs in North Carolina?
You can find and apply to family practice nurse practitioner jobs in North Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
