OR Tech Jobs in Honolulu: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a or tech job in Honolulu?
Focus your search on Honolulu's hospital campuses and ambulatory surgery centers, which do the bulk of local surgical hiring. The strongest candidates here have scrub and circulating experience across general and orthopedic cases, since both are in consistent demand. Familiarity with sterile processing workflows is a meaningful edge in Honolulu's smaller surgical teams, and direct outreach to OR managers at community hospitals often moves faster than applying through large system portals.
Which companies hire or techs in Honolulu?
Employers hiring or techs in Honolulu right now include Speechify, The Queen's Health Systems, and Walgreens, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Honolulu's hiring is led by large nonprofit health systems, military-affiliated medical centers, and a growing network of outpatient surgery centers serving the island's population.
Are there remote or tech jobs in Honolulu?
Remote work is rare for or techs because the role requires hands-on sterile field presence in an operating room. About 50% of or tech openings tied to Honolulu are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to cover administrative, education, or vendor support functions rather than direct patient care. Most surgical techs in Honolulu work fully on-site.
How can I get a or tech job in Honolulu with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Honolulu is a surgical technology program at Kapiolani Community College, which has established relationships with local health systems and often leads to externship placements that convert to hire. Community hospitals and surgery centers on Oahu are more willing to bring on new graduates than large academic centers. Applying as a sterile processing technician first is a common lateral move that puts you inside the OR environment and makes the step to scrub tech significantly easier.
Which industries hire the most or techs in Honolulu?
The sectors hiring the most or techs in Honolulu are Technology & Software, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Honolulu's surgical volume is shaped by its role as the primary medical hub for the Hawaiian Islands, drawing patients from neighboring islands and sustaining consistent staffing demand across both inpatient and outpatient settings.
