OR Tech Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a or tech job in Chicago?
The strongest path into or tech work in Chicago is through the city's large academic medical systems and Level I trauma centers, which maintain high surgical volume and hire consistently. Concentrating on the Illinois Medical District and Streeterville gives you the densest cluster of openings. Candidates who hold CRCST or CST certification and have experience in cardiac, orthopedic, or robotic-assisted surgery tend to move faster through Chicago hiring pipelines than those with general backgrounds.
Which companies hire or techs in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring or techs in Chicago include Target, Rush University Medical Center, and Resurrection Medical Center, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's hiring is driven by large academic health systems, independent surgical hospitals, and growing ambulatory surgery center networks spread across the North Side, South Loop, and suburban campuses.
How can I get a or tech job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through a surgical technology externship embedded in one of the city's accredited programs, several of which are affiliated with the Illinois Medical District hospitals. Employers such as community hospitals on the North Side and suburban surgical centers tend to hire new graduates into scrub tech or sterile processing roles as a first step. Demonstrating familiarity with robotic platforms and holding a current BLS certification strengthens entry-level applications in this market.
