Senior Level Orthopedic Surgeon Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level orthopedic surgeon job?
Employers at this level expect a completed orthopedic surgery residency and typically a fellowship in a subspecialty such as spine, joint reconstruction, sports medicine, or trauma. What gives candidates an edge is a demonstrable surgical volume, published outcomes or research, and evidence of mentoring residents or junior attendings. Hiring at this level covers large health systems, academic medical centers, multispecialty physician groups, and ambulatory surgery center networks seeking surgeons who can lead a service line.
Are there remote senior level orthopedic surgeon jobs?
Yes, though remote roles represent a small share of the total given that orthopedic surgery is primarily a hands-on clinical specialty. About 0% of senior level orthopedic surgeon openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, typically covering telemedicine consultations, second-opinion services, utilization review, or medical director positions that carry a significant administrative component.
What makes an orthopedic surgeon role senior level?
A senior level orthopedic surgeon role goes beyond independent clinical practice to include ownership of a subspecialty service line, responsibility for quality metrics and surgical outcomes, and active mentorship of residents, fellows, or junior attendings. These positions often involve committee leadership, credentialing responsibilities, or input into care protocols, placing the surgeon in a visible leadership role within the department.
Which industries hire the most senior level orthopedic surgeons?
