Personal Trainer Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a personal trainer in Hawaii?
Hawaii does not issue a state-issued personal trainer license, so the path to employment is credential-driven rather than state-regulated. Most Hawaii employers require a current personal training certification from a nationally recognized, NCCA-accredited organization such as NASM, ACE, or ACSM. You will also need a valid CPR and AED certification. A degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or a related field strengthens your application, particularly for resort and medical fitness positions.
Which companies hire personal trainers in Hawaii?
Employers hiring personal trainers in Hawaii right now include UFC GYM, 24 Hour Fitness, and Resolution Think, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Resort and hotel fitness centers are among the most consistent hirers across Oahu and the neighbor islands, reflecting Hawaii's heavy tourism and hospitality economy.
Which Hawaii cities have the most personal trainer jobs?
The cities with the most personal trainer openings in Hawaii are Honolulu, Mililani Town, and Hilo. Honolulu dominates the market because of its concentration of large commercial gyms, resort properties, and a sizable resident population, while Maui and Kona draw demand from high-end resort corridors that staff fitness centers year-round for both guests and local clientele.
Are there remote personal trainer jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they are rare. Personal training is fundamentally hands-on work, so most roles require in-person presence at a gym, resort, or client location. About 0% of personal trainer openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve virtual coaching, online programming design, or fitness consulting rather than floor-based training.
How can I get hired as a personal trainer in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a fitness floor attendant or gym associate role at a commercial facility like 24 Hour Fitness or a hotel fitness center, then transitioning to a training role once you earn your NASM or ACE certification. Resort properties on Oahu and Maui frequently hire entry-level fitness staff who shadow senior trainers before taking on their own clients. Building a small roster of clients independently and documenting results gives you a concrete portfolio that outweighs a thin resume.
Where can I find and apply to personal trainer jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to personal trainer jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that match your certification level and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
