Senior Level Physician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level physician job?
Employers at this level look for physicians who can lead clinical programs, mentor residents or junior staff, and make decisions that affect patient care and departmental outcomes. Beyond board certification and deep specialty expertise, what sets candidates apart is a demonstrated history of ownership: driving protocol improvements, building care pathways, or leading multidisciplinary teams. Highlight outcomes you directed, not just contributed to.
Which companies hire senior level physicians?
Companies hiring senior level physicians right now include University of Kentucky, University Hospitals, and CommonSpirit Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level tends to come from health systems, academic medical centers, specialty group practices, and large employers with in-house clinical programs seeking physicians ready to lead.
Are there remote senior level physician jobs?
Yes, though most physician roles at this level remain on-site given the nature of clinical care. About 6% of senior level physician openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with telehealth platforms, utilization management organizations, and health plan medical director roles driving the majority of those flexible arrangements.
What makes a physician role senior level?
Senior level physician roles go beyond clinical practice to include program leadership, clinical governance, and mentoring responsibilities. A senior physician typically owns a service line, department, or specialty program, sets clinical standards, and guides other providers. The distinction from mid-level roles lies in the scope of accountability: senior physicians are responsible for outcomes across a team or population, not just their own caseload.
Which industries hire the most senior level physicians?
Senior level physician roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Science & Research, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they operate complex care environments, manage large patient populations, or require senior clinical leadership to maintain quality standards, accreditation, and regulatory compliance.
