Pipe Fitter Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pipe fitter in Texas?
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation issues the Plumber and Journeyman Plumber licenses that cover many commercial pipefitting classifications in the state, and candidates must pass the relevant trade exam to work legally on regulated systems. Most pipe fitters enter through a registered apprenticeship with a United Association local or an NCCER-affiliated training center, completing both classroom hours and on-the-job training before sitting for the journeyman exam.
How much do pipe fitters make in Texas?
Pipe fitters in Texas earn a median of about $59,840 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,270 for the lowest 10% to over $81,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pipe fitters in Texas?
Employers hiring pipe fitters in Texas right now include Audubon Companies, CAM Industrial Solutions, and FTI, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of refineries, chemical plants, and LNG terminals along the Gulf Coast means large industrial contractors and owner-operators continuously recruit both permanent and turnaround pipe fitters throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most pipe fitter jobs?
El Paso, Houston, and Farmers Branch have the most pipe fitter openings in Texas right now. Houston and Beaumont sit at the center of the Gulf Coast petrochemical corridor and draw the largest share of refinery and plant work, while Corpus Christi's expanding LNG export facilities and port infrastructure have made it a fast-growing hub for both permanent staff and turnaround crews.
Are there remote pipe fitter jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of pipe fitter openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which reflects the fundamentally hands-on, on-site nature of the trade. The narrow slice of remote work in this field tends to involve pipe design review, project coordination, or estimating roles held by experienced pipe fitters who have moved into technical or supervisory positions.
How can I get hired as a pipe fitter in Texas with little or no experience?
Enrolling in a registered apprenticeship is the most realistic entry path, and Texas has active programs through United Association locals in Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas as well as NCCER-affiliated training centers attached to community colleges like San Jacinto College and Lone Star College. Large industrial contractors such as Turner Industries and Wood Group regularly hire pre-apprentices for plant turnaround support roles, and holding an OSHA 10 card plus a basic NCCER Core certificate gives a candidate a measurable edge over other first-time applicants.
