Carpenter Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a carpenter in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued carpenter's license for most residential and commercial work, so entry typically begins through a registered apprenticeship with a union like the United Brotherhood of Carpenters or through a pre-apprenticeship program at a Texas community college. Completing an apprenticeship, earning an OSHA safety certification, and building a portfolio of finished work are the steps most Texas employers expect before bringing on a full journey-level carpenter.
How much do carpenters make in Texas?
Carpenters in Texas earn a median of about $48,900 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,980 for the lowest 10% to over $65,920 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire carpenters in Texas?
Employers hiring carpenters in Texas right now include TIC - The Industrial Company, Fluor, and Barnard Construction, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's sustained residential and commercial construction activity means large homebuilders, regional general contractors, and specialty finish crews post openings year-round across the state's major metros.
Which Texas cities have the most carpenter jobs?
Abilene, College Station, and Austin have the most carpenter openings in Texas right now. Houston's energy sector and port expansion keep commercial construction steady, Dallas-Fort Worth's rapid population growth fuels both residential framing and commercial fit-out, and San Antonio's military installations and tourism infrastructure drive consistent demand for skilled finish and structural carpenters across the metro.
Are there remote carpenter jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Carpentry is fundamentally hands-on, site-specific work, so fully remote roles make up a small fraction of the market. About 0% of carpenter openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be estimating, project coordination, or shop fabrication roles rather than field carpentry.
How can I get hired as a carpenter in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a registered apprenticeship through the Texas chapter of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters or a pre-apprenticeship program at a community college like Austin Community College or Houston Community College. Large Texas homebuilders such as D.R. Horton and LGI Homes regularly hire apprentice-level framing and finish helpers. Candidates who hold an OSHA 10 card and can demonstrate basic tool competency have a clear edge over those applying without any credential.
Where can I find and apply to carpenter jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to carpenter jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state's major metros and project types. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
