Maintenance Millwright Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a maintenance millwright in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license specifically for maintenance millwrights, so the most recognized path is completing a formal apprenticeship through the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, which operates programs in the Houston and Dallas areas. Apprenticeships combine on-the-job training with classroom instruction and typically last four years. Many Texas employers also accept candidates who hold journeyman certification from another state or who have completed a technical college program in industrial maintenance or millwright technology at schools like San Jacinto College.
How much do maintenance millwrights make in Texas?
Maintenance millwrights in Texas earn a median of about $62,630 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,510 for the lowest 10% to over $92,490 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire maintenance millwrights in Texas?
Employers hiring maintenance millwrights in Texas right now include TIC - The Industrial Company and Ergon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of refineries, chemical plants, and heavy manufacturing facilities along the Gulf Coast means demand from large industrial operators is steady throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most maintenance millwright jobs?
Abilene and Ennis have the most maintenance millwright openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its massive petrochemical and refining corridor along the Ship Channel, while San Antonio and Beaumont are driven by heavy manufacturing facilities, power generation plants, and the ongoing capital investment that large industrial employers in those corridors require for equipment upkeep.
Are there remote maintenance millwright jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Maintenance millwright work is inherently hands-on, requiring physical presence to perform precision alignments, install machinery, and maintain industrial equipment, so remote arrangements don't apply to most of the role. About 0% of maintenance millwright openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those postings typically reflect administrative, supervisory, or estimation components rather than core mechanical maintenance duties.
How can I get hired as a maintenance millwright in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a registered apprenticeship program through the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, which accepts applicants without prior millwright experience and pays a wage while you train. Large Texas petrochemical and manufacturing employers like refineries along the Gulf Coast regularly hire maintenance helpers or industrial maintenance technicians as entry-level positions that feed into millwright tracks. Completing an industrial maintenance certificate at a Texas community college such as San Jacinto College or Lee College in Baytown strengthens your application considerably and signals mechanical aptitude to hiring supervisors.
Where can I find and apply to maintenance millwright jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to maintenance millwright jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries including petrochemical, manufacturing, and power generation.
