Electrician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a electrician in Texas?
To work as an electrician in Texas, you must obtain a license through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The path starts with registering as an apprentice electrician, then advancing to journeyman after completing the required hours of supervised field work and passing the journeyman exam. A master electrician license requires additional experience and a separate exam. TDLR oversees all licensing and continuing education requirements.
How much do electricians make in Texas?
Electricians in Texas earn a median of about $58,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $37,920 for the lowest 10% to over $80,300 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire electricians in Texas?
Employers hiring electricians in Texas right now include Apple, Amazon, and NVIDIA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's scale of commercial development, energy infrastructure, and industrial facilities means demand is distributed across large national contractors, regional firms, and major utilities operating throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most electrician jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most electrician openings in Texas. Houston's energy sector and port-driven industrial base generate consistent demand, while Dallas-Fort Worth's commercial construction boom and corporate campus development keep contractor pipelines active, and San Antonio's steady residential and military-adjacent infrastructure growth rounds out the state's major hiring centers.
Are there remote electrician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Electrical work is fundamentally hands-on and site-specific, so the vast majority of openings require physical presence. About 10% of electrician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles are typically in electrical project management, estimating, or design coordination rather than field installation work.
How can I get hired as a electrician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a registered apprenticeship through a Texas-based chapter of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers or the Independent Electrical Contractors, both of which run structured programs that pay while you learn. Large Texas contractors and utilities also hire apprentice-level candidates who hold their Texas Apprentice Electrician registration from TDLR. Coming in from a related trade such as HVAC installation or low-voltage wiring, or completing a pre-apprenticeship at a Texas community college, can also open the door.
Where can I find and apply to electrician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to electrician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the Texas market. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your license level, trade experience, and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
