Project Superintendent Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project superintendent in Texas?
Most project superintendents in Texas enter through field trades or construction management degrees and work up through foreman and assistant superintendent roles before stepping into full site leadership. Texas does not issue a state license specific to the project superintendent title, but most employers require an OSHA 30-Hour Construction card and, for certain public or commercial projects, a Texas contractor's license held by the company of record. A degree from a Texas A&M, UT Austin, or Texas Tech construction science program is a common credential that accelerates the path.
How much do project superintendents make in Texas?
Project superintendents in Texas earn a median of about $101,470 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,040 for the lowest 10% to over $166,800 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project superintendents in Texas?
Employers hiring project superintendents in Texas right now include Kiewit, Structure Tone Southwest, and Ryan Companies US, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's volume of large healthcare, energy, and mixed-use commercial projects keeps demand steady across both national general contractors and regional specialty firms headquartered in Houston and Dallas.
Which Texas cities have the most project superintendent jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most project superintendent openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its concentration of industrial, petrochemical, and healthcare construction, Dallas follows with a high volume of commercial and mixed-use ground-up work, and San Antonio's steady military base, healthcare campus, and infrastructure pipeline keeps its market consistently active.
Are there remote project superintendent jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Project superintendents are responsible for day-to-day site operations and safety, which requires a physical presence on the job site. About 5% of project superintendent openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles are almost exclusively pre-construction planning positions or owner's representative roles that do not carry direct field oversight responsibility.
How can I get hired as a project superintendent in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a field laborer or trades apprenticeship role with a large Texas general contractor, where you build site knowledge before moving into foreman and then assistant superintendent positions. Turner Construction, McCarthy Building Companies, and Austin Industries all operate structured field development programs out of their Texas offices. Earning an OSHA 10-Hour card and a construction management certificate from a Texas community college gives candidates a tangible edge when applying for entry-level field coordinator or assistant superintendent openings.
Where can I find and apply to project superintendent jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to project superintendent jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly through each listing.
