Postdoctoral Associate Jobs in Memphis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a postdoctoral associate job in Memphis?
The strongest hiring comes from Memphis's Medical Center district, where major academic medical institutions and research hospitals concentrate postdoctoral openings in biomedical, clinical, and translational research. Candidates with a completed doctorate and published research in life sciences, neuroscience, or public health have the best prospects. Networking through the University of Memphis and local research consortia, and applying directly to department-level postings rather than general job boards, gives candidates a meaningful edge in this market.
Which companies hire postdoctoral associates in Memphis?
Companies currently hiring postdoctoral associates in Memphis include St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Alsac/St. Jude Children'S Research Hospital, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Memphis's hiring is anchored by academic medical centers, research universities, and nonprofit research institutes rather than private-sector employers, which is typical for postdoctoral roles in mid-sized Southern cities with a strong medical research identity.
Are there remote postdoctoral associate jobs in Memphis?
Yes, though remote availability is limited since most postdoctoral associate roles require hands-on lab work, supervised bench research, or on-site clinical access. About 0% of postdoctoral associate openings tied to Memphis are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to be in computational biology, data-intensive epidemiology, or research analysis roles rather than wet-lab or patient-facing positions.
How can I get a postdoctoral associate job in Memphis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Memphis is a research assistantship or laboratory coordinator role at one of the city's academic medical institutions, which frequently transition strong performers into postdoctoral appointments. The University of Memphis and its affiliated research centers also post junior researcher and graduate research associate positions that serve as direct feeders. Demonstrating familiarity with the specific disease areas or methodologies prominent in Memphis, particularly infectious disease, cancer biology, and behavioral health, strengthens a first application considerably.
Which industries hire the most postdoctoral associates in Memphis?
The sectors hiring the most postdoctoral associates in Memphis are Healthcare & Medical Services and Non-Profit & Social Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Memphis's concentration of federally funded academic medical research, combined with its established nonprofit hospital systems and public health infrastructure, sustains consistent postdoctoral demand across these fields year-round.
