Biomedical Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a biomedical in Tennessee?
Tennessee does not require a state-issued license to work as a biomedical equipment technician or engineer, but most employers expect a relevant credential. The standard path is completing an associate degree in biomedical equipment technology or a bachelor's in biomedical engineering, then earning AAMI certification such as the CBET. Many community colleges in Tennessee, including those in the Tennessee College of Applied Technology network, offer programs that feed directly into entry-level biomedical roles.
How much do biomedicals make in Tennessee?
Biomedicals in Tennessee earn a median of about $106,470 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,070 for the lowest 10% to over $174,020 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire biomedicals in Tennessee?
Employers hiring biomedicals in Tennessee right now include Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, University of Tennessee, and Trimedx, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Tennessee's concentration of large hospital systems and regional medical device operations means biomedical openings appear consistently across both clinical and manufacturing settings.
Which Tennessee cities have the most biomedical jobs?
Memphis, Knoxville, and Nashville have the most biomedical openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because it is home to HCA Healthcare's headquarters and a dense network of hospital campuses, while Memphis draws biomedical demand from major health systems like Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and the presence of medical logistics operations, and Knoxville benefits from the University of Tennessee Medical Center and regional hospital employment.
Are there remote biomedical jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. Most biomedical roles require on-site presence to inspect, repair, and maintain physical medical equipment. About 0% of biomedical openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, and those positions tend to be concentrated in technical support, clinical systems training, or medical device sales roles rather than hands-on equipment service.
How can I get hired as a biomedical in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a biomedical equipment technology program at a Tennessee College of Applied Technology campus, which connects graduates directly with regional hospital systems. Large Tennessee employers like Vanderbilt University Medical Center and HCA Healthcare periodically hire biomed technician trainees and entry-level equipment specialists. Candidates moving from adjacent roles such as electronics technician or medical equipment repair often transition successfully, and holding a current CBET candidate status adds a clear edge with hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to biomedical jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to biomedical jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings from employers across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and location, and apply directly to each position.
