Biomedical Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a biomedical in New York?
The most direct path is completing an associate or bachelor's degree in biomedical equipment technology or biomedical engineering, then pursuing AAMI certification such as the CBET. New York does not issue a state-specific license for biomedical equipment technicians, but most hospital systems in the state require or strongly prefer AAMI credentials before hiring. Large New York health systems and the New York State Department of Health set the de facto credentialing standards employers follow.
How much do biomedicals make in New York?
Biomedicals in New York earn a median of about $104,010 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,290 for the lowest 10% to over $177,870 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire biomedicals in New York?
Employers hiring biomedicals in New York right now include NYU Langone Health, Maimonides Medical Center, and University at Buffalo, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's high density of academic medical centers, multi-site health systems, and medical device manufacturers makes it one of the more consistent states for sustained biomedical hiring year-round.
Which New York cities have the most biomedical jobs?
Buffalo, Brooklyn, and New York account for the most biomedical openings in New York. New York City leads by a wide margin because of the sheer concentration of large hospital systems and academic medical centers there, while Albany's openings are driven by state government health facilities and regional health networks, and Buffalo's demand reflects the anchor presence of Kaleida Health and Catholic Health in western New York.
Are there remote biomedical jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. The core of biomedical work involves hands-on equipment inspection, repair, and calibration that requires physical presence in a clinical setting. About 0% of biomedical openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be in regulatory affairs, clinical systems project management, or vendor-side technical support roles rather than frontline equipment maintenance.
How can I get hired as a biomedical in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate degree program followed by an internship or externship at a New York hospital or health system. Northwell Health, NewYork-Presbyterian, and Montefiore Medical Center periodically run biomedical technician trainee and new-grad programs. Candidates coming from electronics repair, IT hardware support, or military biomedical training often move in laterally. Completing AAMI's CBET exam, even as a candidate without full experience, signals readiness and gives a concrete edge with New York hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to biomedical jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to biomedical jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
