Laboratory Supervisor Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a laboratory supervisor in New York?
New York State requires clinical laboratory supervisors to meet qualifications set by the New York State Department of Health under its clinical laboratory permit program, which governs personnel standards for supervisory roles in regulated labs. Candidates typically need a bachelor's degree in a laboratory science and certification through a body such as ASCP. Public health and hospital labs often require additional NYSDOH-recognized credentials before you can be listed as a qualifying supervisor on a facility permit.
How much do laboratory supervisors make in New York?
Laboratory supervisors in New York earn a median of about $134,680 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $65,440 for the lowest 10% to over $291,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire laboratory supervisors in New York?

New York's dense concentration of academic medical centers, large integrated health systems, and pharmaceutical campuses across the Hudson Valley and Long Island means consistent openings across both clinical and industrial laboratory settings.
Which New York cities have the most laboratory supervisor jobs?
Brooklyn, New York, and Rochester have the most laboratory supervisor openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its scale of hospital systems, research institutions, and commercial diagnostic labs, while Albany's concentration of state public health infrastructure drives demand upstate, and Buffalo's growing medical corridor and manufacturing base supports consistent industrial and clinical laboratory hiring.
Are there remote laboratory supervisor jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of laboratory supervisor openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, since most supervisory work requires direct oversight of instruments, personnel, and specimens on-site. The portions most likely to be done remotely are administrative tasks such as data review, compliance documentation, and regulatory reporting rather than hands-on laboratory operations.
