Pr Specialist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pr specialist in Texas?
PR specialists in Texas are not state-licensed, so the path runs through education and credentials rather than a government exam. Most employers require a bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or marketing. Earning the Accreditation in Public Relations credential from the Public Relations Society of America strengthens a candidacy considerably. Texas has an active PRSA chapter network in Dallas, Houston, and Austin that connects candidates with employers and mentors in the field.
Which companies hire pr specialists in Texas?
Employers hiring pr specialists in Texas right now include Amazon, Aramark, and Baker Hughes Company, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major health systems, and energy companies creates steady demand for communications professionals at every level.
Which Texas cities have the most pr specialist jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most pr specialist openings in Texas. Houston's energy sector and sprawling medical complex drive demand there, Dallas attracts corporate and agency work tied to its dense headquarters cluster, and Austin's technology and state government presence fuels a strong market for both in-house and agency roles.
Are there remote pr specialist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 22% of pr specialist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves writing, media outreach, and digital strategy that can be done from anywhere. Media monitoring, content creation, and social media management roles tend to carry the most remote flexibility, while crisis communications and executive counsel roles typically require an in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a pr specialist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or coordinator role at a Texas public relations agency, where exposure to multiple clients and industries builds a portfolio quickly. Dallas-based agencies such as Richards/Lerma and Houston firms serving the energy sector regularly bring on junior staff. Entry roles with titles like communications assistant or media relations coordinator at large Texas health systems or university communications offices also open doors. A strong writing sample portfolio and PRSA student membership give candidates a measurable edge over those relying on a degree alone.
