Pr Specialist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pr specialist in New York?
Public relations does not require a state-issued license in New York, so the path centers on education and credentials. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, or journalism. The Public Relations Society of America offers the Accredited in Public Relations credential, which carries weight with New York agencies and in-house communications teams. Internships with New York agencies or media companies are the most direct route into the field.
Which companies hire pr specialists in New York?
Employers hiring pr specialists in New York right now include PTAG, LaBella Associates, and K&A Engineering, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global agencies, financial institutions, and entertainment companies makes it one of the deepest markets for PR hiring in the country.
Which New York cities have the most pr specialist jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Binghamton have the most pr specialist openings in New York. New York City drives the overwhelming share of demand given its dense concentration of global agencies, major media outlets, Fortune 500 headquarters, and consumer brands, while Albany and White Plains account for government affairs, healthcare, and regional corporate communications roles.
Are there remote pr specialist jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many professional fields, since much of the work involves writing, media outreach, and digital communications that translate well to remote settings. About 31% of pr specialist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the shift toward flexible work in communications. Media relations and content-driven roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while crisis communications and executive visibility work typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a pr specialist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or junior coordinator role at a New York agency. Firms like Edelman, BCW, and Ketchum run structured internship programs that regularly convert to full-time positions. Lateral moves from journalism, marketing coordination, or social media management are common and credible.
