Principal System Architect Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a principal system architect in Texas?
Becoming a principal system architect in Texas typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, systems engineering, or a closely related discipline, followed by years of progressive architecture experience. Texas does not issue a state license for this role, so advancement depends on building a strong portfolio of large-scale system designs, earning widely recognized certifications such as TOGAF or AWS Certified Solutions Architect, and demonstrating leadership across enterprise or defense-grade projects common to Texas employers.
How much do principal system architects make in Texas?
Principal system architects in Texas earn a median of about $133,310 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,110 for the lowest 10% to over $191,800 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire principal system architects in Texas?
Employers hiring principal system architects in Texas right now include Arm, Jabil, and HP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's deep concentration of defense contractors, telecommunications firms, and enterprise technology companies means hiring activity tends to be consistent and broad rather than clustered in a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most principal system architect jobs?
Austin, Richardson, and Spring have the most principal system architect openings in Texas. Austin drives significant volume through its dense concentration of enterprise software and cloud-native companies, Dallas anchors corporate IT and telecommunications hiring, and San Antonio benefits from a strong defense and federal contracting sector centered around military installations such as Joint Base San Antonio.
Are there remote principal system architect jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. Principal system architect work is largely analytical and collaborative rather than hands-on or site-dependent, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 29% of principal system architect openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting broader trends in senior architecture roles. Strategy, design review, and stakeholder alignment work translates most readily to remote settings, while hands-on integration testing or classified defense projects often require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a principal system architect in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a systems or solutions engineer role at a large Texas employer, where you can build hands-on architecture experience before moving into a principal-level position. Companies like Dell Technologies, Raytheon, and USAA in Texas regularly hire associate or mid-level systems engineers and provide structured growth paths. Earning a foundational certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or CompTIA Security+ signals readiness, and contributing to internal architecture review boards or design documentation is the most direct way to make the transition visible to hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to principal system architect jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to principal system architect jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Find roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit.
