Project Consultant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project consultant in Texas?
Most project consultant roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, information systems, or a related discipline. Texas does not have a state-issued license specific to project consulting, but employers across Houston, Dallas, and Austin consistently prioritize candidates who hold or are pursuing a Project Management Professional credential through the Project Management Institute. Building experience through analyst or coordinator roles in energy, technology, or healthcare companies common in Texas is the most direct path.
How much do project consultants make in Texas?
Project consultants in Texas earn a median of about $98,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,460 for the lowest 10% to over $162,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project consultants in Texas?
Employers hiring project consultants in Texas right now include Alvarez & Marsal, Terracon Consultants, and Infosys, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of energy headquarters in Houston and technology firms in Austin and Dallas means demand stays consistent across both corporate and client-service consulting environments.
Which Texas cities have the most project consultant jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin account for the largest share of project consultant openings in Texas. Houston's energy sector and large corporate headquarters drive volume there, Dallas attracts consulting work tied to financial services and logistics firms based in the Metroplex, and Austin's technology industry generates steady demand for consultants working on digital and software implementation projects.
Are there remote project consultant jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many professional roles, because project consulting work is often document-driven and client-meeting-based rather than tied to a fixed physical site. About 28% of project consultant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-and-deliverable nature of the work. Strategy, digital transformation, and process improvement engagements tend to offer the most location flexibility.
How can I get hired as a project consultant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a project coordinator or business analyst role first, then moving into consulting once you have client-facing experience on your record. Large Texas employers such as energy companies in Houston and technology firms in Austin regularly bring in entry-level associates through rotational programs and graduate hiring tracks. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential and building a portfolio of process improvement or implementation work, even from internships or volunteer projects, gives early-career candidates a concrete edge in Texas screening processes.
Where can I find and apply to project consultant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to project consultant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across Houston, Dallas, Austin, and other markets in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to the ones that match.
