Product Development Intern Jobs in Charleston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a product development intern job in Charleston?
The strongest path is targeting Charleston's medical device manufacturers, defense contractors near Joint Base Charleston, and the consumer goods companies clustered in North Charleston's industrial corridor. Candidates with hands-on prototyping experience, CAD skills, or a background in materials science stand out locally. Internships posted through area universities like the College of Charleston and The Citadel also funnel directly into these employer networks, giving local students a meaningful edge.
Which companies hire product development interns in Charleston?
Employers hiring product development interns in Charleston right now include CVS Health, Medical University of South Carolina, and ARCO a Family of Construction Companies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Charleston's hiring mix leans toward mid-size manufacturers, defense-adjacent technology firms, and growing consumer brands that use intern programs as a primary pipeline for full-time product roles.
Are there remote product development intern jobs in Charleston?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for hands-on roles that involve physical prototyping or lab work, which are common in Charleston. About 20% of product development intern openings tied to Charleston are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to cluster in research, documentation, and digital product coordination functions rather than manufacturing-floor or hardware-focused positions.
How can I get a product development intern job in Charleston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a structured internship through a Charleston-area manufacturer or a cooperative education program with the College of Charleston or Trident Technical College. Local employers in consumer goods and defense manufacturing regularly hire candidates without direct product development experience if they demonstrate CAD familiarity, lab coursework, or a project portfolio. Targeting smaller North Charleston firms that run lean product teams often means more hands-on responsibility from day one.
Which industries hire the most product development interns in Charleston?
Charleston product development intern roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Charleston's deep manufacturing base, proximity to Joint Base Charleston, and a growing cluster of biomedical and consumer goods companies make those sectors the primary drivers of local product development intern demand.
