Product Engineer Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a product engineer job in Chicago?
Start with Chicago's strongest hiring pockets: Fulton Market and the West Loop draw software and platform-driven product roles, while the northwest suburbs around Schaumburg and Downers Grove concentrate manufacturing and industrial product engineering. Tailoring your resume toward the intersection of technical depth and cross-functional collaboration gives you an edge, since Chicago employers across medtech, food technology, and B2B software consistently look for engineers who can partner with commercial teams.
Which companies hire product engineers in Chicago?
Employers hiring product engineers in Chicago right now include Google, Wahl Clipper Corporation, and Okta, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's mix of legacy manufacturers, fast-growing fintech firms, and large healthcare systems means openings appear across a wide range of employer sizes and industry backgrounds.
Are there remote product engineer jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability varies sharply by role type. Product engineers in software, data infrastructure, or platform work often find fully remote options, while those in hardware, manufacturing, or lab-based environments typically require on-site presence. About 67% of product engineer openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the most flexibility concentrated in enterprise software and fintech roles headquartered downtown.
How can I get a product engineer job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through associate or junior product engineer roles at mid-size manufacturers in the collar counties or at early-stage startups in Fulton Market, where teams are small and generalists get hands-on scope quickly. Internship pipelines at Illinois Institute of Technology and Northwestern's engineering programs feed directly into local employers. Roles labeled quality engineer, manufacturing engineer, or process engineer frequently serve as lateral entry points that move into full product engineering within one to two years.
Which industries hire the most product engineers in Chicago?
Most product engineer openings in Chicago sit in Technology & Software, Fintech, and Manufacturing, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's position as a hub for industrial manufacturing, healthcare systems, and B2B software creates consistent year-round demand across all three sectors rather than the seasonal spikes common in single-industry markets.
