Systems Integration Engineer Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a systems integration engineer in Illinois?
A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or systems engineering is the standard entry point for this role in Illinois, and no state-issued license is required to work as a systems integration engineer. Illinois employers, particularly in aerospace and defense around Chicago, prioritize candidates who hold or can obtain a federal security clearance, along with hands-on experience integrating hardware and software in a structured engineering environment. Professional Engineer licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation can strengthen a candidacy at senior levels.
Which companies hire systems integration engineers in Illinois?
Illinois systems integration engineer roles are posted by Northrop Grumman, Amazon, and Collins Aerospace and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's dense concentration of aerospace, defense manufacturing, and industrial automation firms keeps demand for systems integration engineers consistently active throughout the greater Chicago region.
Which Illinois cities have the most systems integration engineer jobs?
Chicago, Rolling Meadows, and Rockford have the most systems integration engineer openings in Illinois. Chicago and its suburbs anchor most of the demand because of the region's concentration of aerospace firms, defense contractors, and large industrial manufacturers, while smaller markets like Rockford benefit from legacy manufacturing campuses and defense supply chain operations that require ongoing systems integration work.
Are there remote systems integration engineer jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they're rare. About 75% of systems integration engineer openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of a role that frequently requires physical access to hardware, test environments, and secure facilities. The parts of the work most suited to remote arrangements are requirements analysis, documentation, and software-side integration tasks.
How can I get hired as a systems integration engineer in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a systems engineer associate or junior integration engineer role at one of Illinois's large aerospace or defense employers, where structured new-graduate programs provide on-the-job training alongside senior engineers. Boeing and Motorola Solutions, both headquartered in the Chicago area, run formal early-career engineering programs that accept candidates with an engineering degree and no prior industry experience. Adjacent roles such as test engineer, field service engineer, or embedded software developer at Illinois manufacturing firms are also common lateral entries, and earning a Certified Systems Engineering Professional credential through INCOSE gives candidates a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to systems integration engineer jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to systems integration engineer jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings from employers across the state. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly through the listings.
