Project Engineer Jobs in Charlotte: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project engineer job in Charlotte?
Focus your search on Charlotte's construction, energy, and advanced manufacturing sectors, which drive consistent local demand for project engineers. Firms along the South End corridor and in the University City area hire regularly, as do the utilities and transit contractors supporting city infrastructure growth. Candidates with field coordination experience, proficiency in project management software, and familiarity with local building codes tend to stand out in Charlotte's competitive market.
Which companies hire project engineers in Charlotte?
Employers hiring project engineers in Charlotte right now include DPR Construction, ECS Limited, and Zachry, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Charlotte's mix of national engineering and construction firms, regional utilities, and growing industrial operations creates a broad range of employer types actively recruiting for this role.
Are there remote project engineer jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, though with limits: project engineering is often hands-on and site-dependent, so fully remote roles are less common than in purely desk-based professions. About 38% of project engineer openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. The tasks most likely to go remote in Charlotte are design review, reporting, and stakeholder coordination rather than field oversight or construction management.
How can I get a project engineer job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charlotte is targeting junior or assistant project engineer roles with mid-size construction and infrastructure firms, which tend to hire and train more actively than large nationals. Charlotte's sustained development pipeline, including transit expansion and commercial construction, creates openings for candidates with internship experience or relevant coursework. Highlighting co-op placements, AutoCAD or Procore skills, and any local site exposure gives early-career applicants a concrete edge.
Which industries hire the most project engineers in Charlotte?
The sectors hiring the most project engineers in Charlotte are Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Chemicals & Materials, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Charlotte's ongoing commercial development, regional energy infrastructure investment, and expanding manufacturing base keep demand for project engineers concentrated in these sectors across the metro area.
