Project Engineer Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project engineer job in Columbus?
Target Columbus's most active hiring sectors: commercial construction, civil infrastructure tied to highway and transit projects, and the advanced manufacturing facilities clustered in the east and southeast corridors. General contractors and engineering consultancies headquartered downtown or in Dublin and Westerville post frequently. A PE-in-training credential, proficiency with project management software, and familiarity with ODOT standards all sharpen your competitiveness in this specific market.
Which companies hire project engineers in Columbus?
Employers hiring project engineers in Columbus right now include GPD, PerkinElmer, and Osborn Engineering, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus's mix of large general contractors, regional engineering consultancies, and corporate real estate developers means openings exist across firm sizes, from major infrastructure specialists to midsize MEP firms.
Are there remote project engineer jobs in Columbus?
Yes, though opportunities are limited since most project engineer work requires on-site coordination, field inspections, or direct contractor oversight. About 19% of project engineer openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, skewing toward roles with a heavier planning, estimating, or document-management focus rather than active construction or facilities management.
How can I get a project engineer job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is through assistant project engineer or project coordinator roles with mid-size general contractors and civil engineering firms operating in the Greater Columbus area. Companies managing the wave of data center, logistics, and mixed-use development projects along I-270 often hire recent graduates from Ohio State, Columbus State, or regional engineering programs. Internship experience with a Columbus-based firm and a working knowledge of Procore or Bluebeam gives early-career candidates a concrete edge.
Which industries hire the most project engineers in Columbus?
The sectors hiring the most project engineers in Columbus are Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus's sustained population growth, active commercial development pipeline, and ongoing public infrastructure investment continue to drive consistent demand across those fields.
