Project Engineer Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project engineer job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's dominant sectors: upstream and downstream energy, EPC contractors, chemical processing, and large-scale construction. The Energy Corridor and Greenspoint area concentrate the most openings. Candidates with experience managing capital projects, reading P&IDs, or coordinating with field crews have an edge locally. Networking through industry groups like the Houston chapter of PMI or SPE also opens doors that job boards don't.
Which companies hire project engineers in Houston?
Companies currently hiring project engineers in Houston include Quanta Services, Amentum, and Quanta Infrastructure Solutions, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's hiring base is unusually heavy on energy majors, EPC firms, and midstream operators, which means most openings sit with large industrial employers and their engineering subcontractors.
Are there remote project engineer jobs in Houston?
Yes, though only for roles focused on planning, cost control, or document management rather than hands-on site work. About 19% of project engineer openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than most knowledge-work roles. In Houston specifically, the analytical and scheduling side of energy and infrastructure projects is most likely to offer hybrid flexibility.
How can I get a project engineer job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is targeting EPC contractors and engineering staffing firms that run large capital projects requiring junior engineers to assist with scheduling, cost tracking, or field coordination. Entry-level project controls analyst and field engineer roles are common stepping stones at Houston-area firms. A degree in mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering and a co-op or internship with an energy or industrial employer makes a local candidate competitive.
Which industries hire the most project engineers in Houston?
Houston project engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Energy, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's position as the center of U.S. energy production, refining, and petrochemical output means those sectors consistently generate the highest volume of project engineering work in the region.
