Safety Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a safety engineer in Texas?
Most safety engineers in Texas start with a bachelor's degree in safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or a related field, then pursue the Associate Safety Professional credential as a stepping stone to the Certified Safety Professional designation, both administered by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Texas does not require a state-issued license to work in most safety engineer roles, but employers in petrochemical, construction, and oil and gas consistently expect CSP certification or active candidacy for it.
Which companies hire safety engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring safety engineers in Texas right now include Audubon Companies, Life Time, and Omni Hotels, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of petrochemical plants, large construction contractors, and defense manufacturers means demand is spread across both major corporations and regional industrial firms.
Which Texas cities have the most safety engineer jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most safety engineer openings in Texas. Houston drives the largest share because of its dense concentration of refineries, chemical plants, and engineering and construction firms, while Dallas-Fort Worth pulls strong numbers from commercial construction, logistics, and defense contractors, and San Antonio contributes through its military installations and growing industrial base.
Are there remote safety engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Safety engineering is fundamentally a field-based role, and most positions require regular on-site presence at plants, construction sites, or facilities. About 11% of safety engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be program management, EHS consulting, or corporate safety policy roles rather than hands-on field positions.
How can I get hired as a safety engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for safety coordinator or EHS technician roles at large Texas construction contractors or petrochemical operators, which regularly hire candidates without direct experience if they hold a degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental science. Companies like refinery operators and major contractors in the Houston Ship Channel area run formal onboarding programs for early-career safety professionals. Earning the Associate Safety Professional credential before or during your job search gives you a concrete edge over other applicants at this level.
Where can I find and apply to safety engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to safety engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly from the listing.
