POSITION OVERVIEW
Our projects with Tribal partners rarely follow a fixed start date, end date, or scope — priorities shift as community needs and circumstances evolve, and we need a Sr. Project Manager who treats that as the normal nature of the work, not an obstacle to it. This role is about standing up projects from the ground up, staying proactive when direction changes, and building the kind of trust with Tribal partners that lets the work move forward even when the path isn't linear. Within that, the Sr. Project Manager is still accountable for delivering on budget and against an evolving scope.
This position extends beyond traditional task tracking — it requires direct ownership of key action items, effective facilitation of internal and customer-facing meetings, and active support for the engineering team, and the Director of Tribal Programs. Additionally, the project manager is responsible for directly contributing to monthly customer billing targets.
In addition, the Sr. Project Manager serves as the primary relationship manager for Tribal accounts, fostering trust and ensuring that projects address both technical requirements and community priorities. Success in this role demands a collaborative approach: the Sr. Project Manager is expected to contribute meaningfully to project execution, working alongside the team rather than solely delegating or reporting.
Project Execution & Administration
- Build project plans from the ground up, defining scope, budget, timelines, dependencies, and key milestones based on internal expertise and team input
- Track project deliverables using Smartsheet and ensure accountability
- Run projects through their full lifecycle, proactively identifying and mitigating risks and challenges
- Manage project budgets in coordination with finance and operations
- Continuously reshape project plans as Tribal priorities and circumstances evolve — adjusting scope, timelines, and budget in real time without losing momentum or trust, and keeping stakeholders aligned through each shift
- Conduct project evaluations and lessons learned within 3 weeks of closure, building best practices for future delivery
- Operate in a billable, client-facing capacity, contributing toward monthly customer billing targets
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Tribal accounts, managing expectations and strengthening relationships throughout the project lifecycle
- Immerse yourself in customer priorities, becoming the subject matter expert on assigned projects
- Facilitate regular customer update meetings and provide proactive communication on progress, risks, and changes
- Employ emotional intelligence and cultural awareness to meet project requirements while enhancing stakeholder relationships
- Prepare and distribute agendas prior to meetings, ensuring alignment on objectives
- Facilitate meetings to ensure productive discussions, clear decision-making, and engagement from all participants
- Document and circulate meeting minutes promptly, capturing decisions, action items, and follow-ups
- Collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, and program leadership to remove roadblocks and contribute directly to deliverables
- Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations for stakeholders and end users, including leadership and Tribal partners
- Maintain accurate status updates in organizational systems for accountability and transparency.
- Present reports on project progress, challenges, risks, and solutions clearly to leadership and Tribal partners.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of project management experience, with a proven track record of managing complex projects and contributing directly to deliverables
- Original project plan development: demonstrated ability to build a complete project plan from scratch — translating scope of work, subject-matter knowledge, and team input into a structured plan, without relying on an existing template or precedent
- Comfort operating without a fixed start date, end date, or locked scope — demonstrated ability to stay proactive and keep projects moving forward as direction changes
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated success building and maintaining strong customer relationships, with high emotional intelligence and cultural awareness that fosters trust in diverse communities
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor communication to diverse audiences including technical teams and senior leadership
- Strong command of MS Project, Smartsheet, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, with experience presenting to stakeholders and leadership.
- Strong business analysis capabilities to identify risks and roadblocks before they impact project success
