Position Title
Assistant/Associate Professor of Public Health
Job Summary
The Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine Department of Graduate Public Health invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Public Health. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, student mentorship, and public health practice, and will contribute to the department’s mission of preparing students for leadership and service in diverse public health settings. The department seeks a faculty member who can integrate applied public health experience, interdisciplinary perspectives, and student-centered pedagogy into teaching and scholarly activities.
Essential Job Duties
- Teach and develop graduate-level public health courses, with demonstrated teaching and research expertise in one or more core public health areas (e.g., Health Policy and Management, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health Ethics, etc.).
- Employ effective and innovative instructional strategies in face-to-face and online learning environments.
- Advise and mentor graduate students, including guidance of master’s and doctoral student research projects and applied practice experiences.
- Maintain an active agenda of scholarship and research, including peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.
- Integrate public health practice and applied experiences into teaching, research, and service activities.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and research initiatives, including those that address complex public health challenges across sectors and disciplines.
- Establish and sustain collaborative relationships with community organizations, governmental agencies, and other external partners.
- Partner with and provide technical assistance to various community stakeholders, including state and local agencies.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation-related activities.
Perform other duties consistent with departmental, college, and university priorities, as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Earned doctorate (DrPH or PhD) in Public Health or a closely related field.
- Master of Public Health (MPH) or equivalent professional degree.
- Professional experience in public health practice in governmental, non-governmental, academic, or community-based settings.
- Demonstrated competence in teaching and research in at least one core public health discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in Health Policy and Management, including public health policy analysis, health systems, governance, financing, or public health law.
- Evidence of applied public health practice experience in governmental, nongovernmental, academic, or community-based settings.
- Record of advising or mentoring graduate students in research, capstone, or applied practice experiences.
- Evidence of peer-reviewed scholarship and/or externally funded research.
- Experience contributing to interdisciplinary teaching, research, or practice initiatives, including those informed by One Health approaches.
