Quality Engineer Jobs in San Diego, CA

Summary:

Cevians is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer based in the San Diego area to support manufacturing operations in Rosarito. This role requires 10 or more years of progressive quality engineering experience, with 15+ years preferred, and regular onsite presence in Rosarito 2–3 days per week. The Quality Engineer will provide hands-on technical leadership in product quality, supplier quality, corrective actions, and continuous improvement while supporting the quality management system.

Job duties:

• Provide daily, hands-on support to Quality Control and Production in applying specifications and drawing requirements to purchased and manufactured products.
• Work with suppliers to improve quality and on-time delivery (OTD). Issue supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and track corrective actions through completion.
• Support and maintain the corrective action system. Investigate internal quality issues and customer complaints, coordinate timely completion of corrective action requests (CARs), and verify their effectiveness.
• Review nonconformance reports (NCRs) and coordinate Material Review Board (MRB) activities for disposition.
• Prepare, review, and assist others in completing first article inspection reports.
• Maintain calibration schedules, equipment records, and controls.
• Maintain the approved vendor list (AVL) and support the supplier approval process.
• Participate in engineering change order (ECO) meetings and support the implementation and phase-in of product changes.
• Establish inspection and test methods to ensure products meet specifications and customer requirements.
• Provide leadership in supplier quality, in-process quality, and efforts to reduce defects, scrap, and rework.
• Assist with quality system audits, documentation, and follow-up actions.
• Coordinate environmental and EMI testing with internal teams and outside laboratories.
• Provide onsite quality support at the Rosarito facility 2–3 days per week.

Qualifications:

Skills, education, and experience requirements:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in quality engineering or quality control in aerospace, defense, or a similar manufacturing environment; 15+ years preferred.
• Technical school diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
• Strong understanding of complex mechanical drawings, specifications, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and mechanical inspection techniques.
• Experience investigating quality issues, identifying root causes, and completing corrective actions.
• Experience with supplier quality, nonconforming material, Material Review Boards, first article inspections, and calibration controls.
• Knowledge of military and aerospace lighting specifications and qualification testing, including DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461.
• Experience setting up and operating thermal chambers, altitude chambers, and vibration tables.
• Good understanding of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards and experience supporting quality audits.
• Knowledge of statistical techniques, PFMEA, DOE, SPC, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work with Engineering, Production, Quality, suppliers, and customers.
• English and Spanish communication skills and experience working with manufacturing operations in Mexico preferred.
• Based in the San Diego area and able to travel to Rosarito 2–3 days per week.
