Registered Nurse Jobs in Portland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a registered nurse job in Portland?
Focus your search on the large hospital systems anchored on Pill Hill and the expanding community health centers serving Portland's eastside neighborhoods. Acute care, oncology, and pediatric specialties see consistent demand, while Kaiser Permanente's integrated model and OHSU's academic medical environment create openings that reward candidates with specialty certifications. Tailoring your application to a specific unit or population rather than applying broadly gives you a real edge in Portland's competitive RN market.
Which companies hire registered nurses in Portland?
Portland registered nurse roles are posted by Oregon Health & Science University, Providence, and American Traveler and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The Portland market is anchored by large integrated health systems, a nationally recognized academic medical center, and a growing network of federally qualified health centers serving the city's diverse neighborhoods.
Are there remote registered nurse jobs in Portland?
Yes, though remote work is limited for registered nurses given the hands-on nature of most clinical roles. About 15% of registered nurse openings tied to Portland are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in telehealth triage, care management, and utilization review positions. Portland's strong presence of insurance carriers and managed care organizations makes it a better-than-average market for those remote clinical support functions.
How can I get a registered nurse job in Portland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Portland is a nurse residency or new-graduate program at one of the city's major hospital systems, which are structured specifically for RNs transitioning from school to practice. Community health clinics and long-term care facilities on the eastside and in inner southeast Portland also hire new graduates at higher rates than large academic centers. Completing a clinical rotation at a Portland facility and building a connection with a unit manager before you graduate is the most direct route to a first offer locally.
Which industries hire the most registered nurses in Portland?
Most registered nurse openings in Portland sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Agriculture & Farming, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Portland's combination of a major academic medical center, a large Kaiser Permanente regional hub, and a dense network of community health organizations keeps demand for registered nurses distributed across inpatient, outpatient, and population health settings throughout the metro.
