Verity is hiring a founding Senior Manager, Design Systems Engineer to build Verity Canvas, our code-canonical design system for healthcare software. This role sits at the center of Figma, React, accessibility, and production code. You will keep our real codebase and Figma library aligned, turning design decisions into type-safe, accessible components that product teams can trust. As we migrate from Angular to React, you will help build the system that makes our next generation of UI consistent, scalable, and meaningful for the people who rely on it.
Responsibilities
- Own the @verity/ui component library as a versioned package built on accessible headless primitives and styled through design tokens.
- Build and maintain the @verity/tokens pipeline from DTCG design tokens through Style Dictionary, CSS custom properties, and typed output.
- Create a code-to-Figma token workflow using Figma Variables, staging files, and review practices that prevent silent design drift.
- Author Code Connect mappings so Figma Dev Mode and coding agents generate real @verity/ui components instead of generic markup.
- Define the AI-ready system surface, including MCP context, component manifests, registries, repo guidance, and agent evaluation workflows.
- Strengthen CI quality gates for accessibility, visual regression, app-level regression, linting, and code ownership.
- Manage release discipline through Changesets, semantic versioning, API contract checks, and migration-ready codemods.
- Partner with designers and product teams on Figma conventions, adoption, governance, promotion, and deprecation workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience building front-end systems, design systems, or component libraries with React and TypeScript.
- Experience designing typed component APIs and shipping a design system as a published package used by other teams.
- Hands-on experience with Figma Dev Mode, variables, and Code Connect, or similar design-to-code workflows.
- Experience building design token pipelines using DTCG formats and tools such as Style Dictionary or Tokens Studio.
- Strong accessibility expertise, including ARIA, keyboard interaction, focus management, and automated checks such as axe.
- Experience with Storybook, visual regression testing, CI/CD, modern Git workflows, and package management in monorepos.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Base UI, Radix, React Aria, Ariakit, or similar headless primitive libraries.
- Experience with pnpm workspaces, Turborepo, Changesets, semver, API Extractor, or type-aware codemods.
- Experience with AI-native development workflows, MCP tooling, coding agents, registries, or agent evaluation harnesses.
- Experience pushing tokens from code into Figma or working with the Figma Variables REST API.
- Experience in healthcare, regulated environments, or products where accessibility and precision are essential.
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

Tips for Your Remote Design Manager Job Search
Show your async leadership style upfront
Remote employers want proof you can manage a design team without real-time check-ins. Add a short case study to your portfolio that shows how you ran critique sessions, gave written feedback, and kept projects moving across time zones.
Target remote-first companies directly
Companies built around distributed work hire design managers differently than hybrid employers who list remote as a perk. Look for organizations that publish their remote culture publicly, use async-first tools, and have distributed leadership already in place. Those roles are built for remote from the start.
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote design manager openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your experience level and apply directly without sorting through unfiltered boards.
Prepare for a remote-specific interview format
Remote design manager interviews often include a written design critique or an async take-home to assess how you think and communicate without a whiteboard. Practice explaining your team leadership decisions in writing before your first call, not just your design rationale.
Remote Design Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote design manager job?
Remote design managers land roles by demonstrating they can lead distributed teams without in-person oversight. Remote employers screen for strong written communication, comfort with async tools like Figma, Notion, and Slack, and a portfolio that shows cross-functional leadership not just individual craft. Candidates who document their decision-making process and show results from previous remote or hybrid team situations consistently stand out.
Which companies hire remote design managers?
Remote design manager roles are posted by AECOM, Atlantic Constructors, and Jazwares and others right now, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Remote-first software companies, distributed fintech teams, and enterprise SaaS organizations are among the most active hirers for this role.
Can you get a remote design manager job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level design manager roles are harder to land because employers expect self-direction from day one without the support of an office environment. Candidates can open doors by leading design work on freelance or volunteer projects, contributing to open-source product teams, and building a portfolio that shows team coordination and design critique alongside individual output.
Do you need a degree for remote design manager jobs?
Not always. Remote employers for design manager roles weigh portfolio quality, demonstrated leadership of design teams, and measurable product outcomes heavily alongside or instead of formal credentials. A degree in design, human-computer interaction, or a related field helps with screening filters, but candidates without one regularly get hired by showing a strong body of shipped work and clear team impact.
Which industries hire the most remote design managers?
The sectors hiring the most remote design managers are Construction & Real Estate, Insurance, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These industries rely on distributed product and engineering teams, making remote design leadership a natural fit for their operating model.
