Research Data Scientist Jobs in New Hampshire: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a research data scientist in New Hampshire?
A master's degree in data science, statistics, biostatistics, or a related quantitative discipline is the standard entry point for research data scientist roles in New Hampshire, with doctoral degrees preferred at academic medical centers and defense research organizations. New Hampshire does not require a state-issued license for this role. Employers in the Dartmouth Health network and Nashua-area biotech firms typically look for candidates with a research thesis, peer-reviewed publication, or independent project portfolio demonstrating applied scientific method.
How much do research data scientists make in New Hampshire?
Research data scientists in New Hampshire earn a median of about $100,620 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $73,480 for the lowest 10% to over $155,020 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire research data scientists in New Hampshire?
Employers hiring research data scientists in New Hampshire right now include Dartmouth College, University System of New Hampshire, and Insmed Incorporated, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New Hampshire's concentration of defense contractors, academic medical systems, and advanced manufacturing firms makes it a more specialized market than neighboring states, so openings tend to require domain-specific research experience rather than general analytics skills.
Which New Hampshire cities have the most research data scientist jobs?
Durham, Hanover, and New Hampshire account for the largest share of research data scientist openings in New Hampshire. Manchester and Nashua drive the majority of postings through their established technology and healthcare employer bases, while Concord and the Upper Valley around Hanover add volume through state government research offices and Dartmouth-affiliated institutions, which attract candidates with academic and clinical research backgrounds.
Are there remote research data scientist jobs in New Hampshire?
Yes, and more than most fields, because research data science work centers on computation, statistical analysis, and writing rather than on-site lab presence. About 29% of research data scientist openings tied to New Hampshire are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader trends in analytical and scientific computing roles. Positions involving human subjects research, secure government data, or laboratory collaboration are the most likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a research data scientist in New Hampshire with little or no experience?
The most realistic path into research data science in New Hampshire without experience is through a graduate research assistantship or postdoctoral fellowship at Dartmouth College or UNH, both of which place candidates into affiliated health system and industry partner roles. Entry-level data analyst and junior biostatistician positions at Dartmouth Health or the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services serve as practical stepping stones. A strong thesis, reproducible code portfolio on a public repository, or a co-authored research paper gives candidates a concrete edge over equally credentialed applicants.
Where can I find and apply to research data scientist jobs in New Hampshire?
You can find and apply to research data scientist jobs in New Hampshire on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings in the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your background, seniority, and preferred location or remote arrangement, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
