Research Intern Jobs in Arlington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a research intern job in Arlington?
Target Arlington's dominant employer types: federal contractors along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor, defense and intelligence firms near the Pentagon, and policy think tanks concentrated in Courthouse and Crystal City. Candidates with quantitative skills, policy writing samples, or security clearance eligibility stand out here. Applying directly through contractor career portals and demonstrating familiarity with federal research processes gives you a measurable edge over generic applicants.
Which companies hire research interns in Arlington?
Employers hiring research interns in Arlington right now include Two Six Technologies, STR, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Arlington's hiring base skews heavily toward defense contractors, nonprofit policy organizations, and federally funded research institutes rather than commercial startups.
Are there remote research intern jobs in Arlington?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role. Desk-based and analytical research positions are more remote-friendly, while lab, archive, or government-facility work requires on-site presence. About 62% of research intern openings tied to Arlington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with policy analysis and data-focused roles accounting for most of those flexible arrangements.
How can I get a research intern job in Arlington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through Arlington's network of policy think tanks and nonprofit research organizations, many of which run structured internship programs for early-career candidates. Roles like research assistant or junior analyst at these organizations frequently require only relevant coursework rather than prior professional experience. A writing sample focused on public policy, defense, or economics aligns directly with what local employers review first.
Which industries hire the most research interns in Arlington?
Arlington research intern roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Retail, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Arlington's proximity to the Pentagon, federal agencies, and Capitol Hill makes defense policy, public administration, and national security research the defining drivers of local internship demand.
