Description
At SAIC, we are transforming the future of national security, defense, space, intelligence, and civilian mission outcomes. The SAIC Growth Organization is the engine driving our enterprise expansion, responsible for identifying, pursuing, and winning multibillion-dollar, mission-critical federal contracts.
As a Strategic Growth & Capture Intern, you won't just observe—you will play an active role in shaping how SAIC brings cutting-edge solutions to government clients. You will embed directly alongside seasoned Business Development (BD) executives, Capture Managers, Solution Architects, and Competitive Intelligence analysts. This role offers an immersive, hands-on masterclass in the federal procurement lifecycle, strategic market positioning, competitive counter-solutions, and executive-level proposal development. The internship will be onsite in Reston, VA.
Key Responsibilities
Market Research & Competitive Intelligence:
- Conduct deep-dive market assessments across defense, space, civilian, and intelligence agency pipelines using federal market tools (e.g., GovWin IQ, SAM.gov, FPDS, USAspending).
- Assist in developing competitive landscapes, competitor profiles, and "Black Hat" competitive intelligence dossiers (evaluating traditional defense primes and emerging non-traditional defense-tech disruptors).
- Synthesize findings into executive briefing decks, highlighting customer pain points, budget trajectories, and emerging procurement trends.
Capture Strategy & Pursuit Support
- Support Capture Managers across pre-award gate milestones (opportunity qualification, solutioning, teaming, and price-to-win reviews).
- Help craft differentiated value propositions, customer-first win themes, and "Start with Why" mission narratives connecting SAIC technical discriminators to warfighter needs. Collaborate with partner intelligence leads to analyze teaming agreements, subcontractor capabilities, and small business socio-economic utilization strategies.
Proposal Operations & Enablement
- Participate in proposal stand-up meetings, storyboarding sessions, and color reviews (Pink, Red, and Gold Team reviews).
- Assist capture teams in building past performance matrices, compliance cross-reference tables, and capability cheat-sheets. Partner with Growth Enablement leads to optimize capture toolkits, template repositories, and pipeline metrics.
Pipeline Analytics & Growth Operations
- Maintain and audit pursuit health data within our CRM platform (Microsoft Dynamics 365). Help build and maintain Power BI dashboards tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) including qualified pipeline value, win rate (Pwin), bookings forecast, and Bid & Proposal (B&P) spend.
Capstone Project
- Research, develop, and present a high-visibility Growth Capstone Project to SAIC Growth leadership and Business Group Growth Officers at the conclusion of the internship.

Strategy Intern Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a strategy intern in Virginia?
Most strategy intern roles in Virginia require enrollment in or recent completion of a bachelor's or master's degree in business, public policy, economics, or a related field. Virginia does not issue a state license for strategy roles, so the path runs through academics and demonstrated analytical experience. Competitive candidates build case study portfolios, pursue relevant coursework at Virginia universities, and target early application windows for summer programs at major consulting and federal contracting firms based in the state.
Which companies hire strategy interns in Virginia?
Companies currently hiring strategy interns in Virginia include HII, SAIC, and Blue Origin, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal contractors and management consulting firms in the Northern Virginia corridor makes it one of the more active markets in the country for this role.
Which Virginia cities have the most strategy intern jobs?
The cities with the most strategy intern openings in Virginia are Arlington, Reston, and Alexandria. Northern Virginia and Arlington dominate because of the high density of federal agencies, defense contractors, and consulting headquarters located there, while Richmond draws openings from corporate headquarters such as Capital One and large financial services and healthcare organizations based in the region.
Are there remote strategy intern jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most fields, since strategy intern work is primarily desk-based and analytical. About 50% of strategy intern openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work. Research, data analysis, and presentation development are the tasks most commonly performed remotely, while client-facing or classified work typically requires an in-office or secure-facility presence.
How can I get hired as a strategy intern in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured summer internship programs run by Virginia's large federal contractors and consulting firms, which are specifically designed for students without professional experience. Employers like Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos run formal early-career cohorts that recruit directly from Virginia universities. Candidates with no work history strengthen their applications through case competition participation, policy research projects, or lateral experience in roles like research assistant or financial analyst. A strong GPA and clear articulation of analytical coursework give candidates a measurable edge in competitive applicant pools.
Where can I find and apply to strategy intern jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to strategy intern jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Virginia markets. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and target metro, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
