Mid Level Retirement Plan Consultant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level retirement plan consultant job?
Highlight your direct experience managing plan compliance, client relationships, or vendor oversight rather than listing tasks. Employers at this level want to see ownership: documents you authored, issues you resolved independently, and clients you managed solo. Tailor your resume to reflect the plan types you know best, whether defined contribution, defined benefit, or both, and lead with measurable outcomes wherever you can.
Which companies hire mid level retirement plan consultants?
Companies hiring mid level retirement plan consultants right now include CBIZ, USI Insurance Services, and Moneta, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of third-party administrators, financial services firms, insurance carriers, and regional advisory practices that need consultants who can run plans with limited senior oversight.
Are there remote mid level retirement plan consultant jobs?
Yes, and the share is meaningful. About 25% of mid level retirement plan consultant openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the work, plan review, compliance testing, and client communication, can be done without a daily office presence. Fully on-site roles tend to cluster at firms with high-touch client service models.
How do I move up to a mid level retirement plan consultant role?
The move from entry level to mid level is built on progressive ownership. Start by taking full responsibility for a specific plan type or compliance function rather than supporting someone else on it. Develop fluency in testing cycles, correction procedures, or client reporting, and document outcomes you drove. Employers promoting or hiring into mid level roles look for evidence of independent judgment, not just task completion.
Which industries hire the most mid level retirement plan consultants?
Mid Level retirement plan consultant roles concentrate in Insurance, Accounting & Auditing, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they manage large employee populations with complex plan structures that require consultants who can handle compliance, reporting, and client service without constant senior guidance.
