Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Safety Detective: Identify process hazards, evaluate risks, and develop innovative solutions.
- Program Architect: Create and implement comprehensive High Hazard/Process Safety Management (HH/PSM) programs including Process Hazard Analysis execution with measurable results and timely follow-ups!
- Data Storyteller: Track and analyze key performance indicators (both leading and lagging) to showcase the impact and progress of our BD HH/PSM program.
- Analysis Leader: Spearhead Process Hazard Analysis on existing systems and exciting new processes.
- Process Innovator: Evaluate new processes and enhance existing ones to meet evolving requirements.
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams - Partner with maintenance engineers and technical specialists to develop innovative solutions for complex equipment challenges.
- Drive Excellence in Safety Programs - Coordinate and evaluate cutting-edge maintenance programs for sophisticated high hazard equipment.
- Lead Continuous Improvement - Ensure timely resolution of findings and implement effective High Hazard/Process Safety Management (HH/PSM) program elements.
- Develop Performance Metrics - Create and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that drive operational excellence and safety compliance.
- Champion Safety Culture - Deliver engaging training programs and ensure rigorous compliance with safety protocols.
- Change Guardian: Provide strategic oversight for the site Management of Change (MOC) Processes.
- Schedule Master: Manage the site PHA schedule and recommendation implementation plan with precision and foresight!
- Investigation Expert: Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for incidents and near misses.
- Safety Reviewer: Oversee and lead Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for site projects.
- Knowledge Sharer: Mentor colleagues and create engaging training programs that elevate our entire team's safety awareness.
- Team Collaborator: Participate actively in implementing new EHS and HH/PSM procedures and processes that enhance our safety culture.
- Network Builder: Become an influential member of the HH/PSM network across BDX, sharing best practices and innovations.
- Regulatory Ambassador: Interact confidently with regulatory authorities for permits, inspections, and information requests.
- Insurance Liaison: Partner with Facilities to engage with insurance companies as a knowledgeable site representative!
- Technical Expert: Maintain cutting-edge expertise in HH/PSM and other EHS Regulations!
- Future Forecaster: Anticipate regulatory changes and evaluate their impact on BD operations, providing strategic guidance to leadership!
- Hands-On Experience: Work with Flammable Liquids, Ethylene Oxide Sterilizer, and potential combustible dust scenarios.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Process Engineering, or other relevant degree field.
- 3 years leading EHS processes in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge and Skills:
- ISO Savvy: Experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 compliance preferred. Auditor certification is a plus, or bring your enthusiasm to earn one!
- PSM Expert: Familiarity with the fourteen elements of Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA's Risk Management Plan (RMP) rule.
- People Person: Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with colleagues at all levels across diverse functions!
- Mentor Mindset: Effective skills in counseling, coaching, and influencing others toward safety excellence!
- Regulation Navigator: Demonstrated understanding of federal and state safety and environmental laws with the ability to identify and evaluate workplace hazards!
- Constructive Challenger: Ability to challenge the organization while maintaining trust and respect.
- Bridge Builder: Talent for building business partnerships across functional groups and leading project or technical teams.
- Adaptability Ace: Ability to accept and respond to changes and challenges with positivity and resilience.
- Solution Finder: Demonstrated capability to analyze complex problems and provide accurate, effective solutions!
- Priority Juggler: Exceptional skills in time management and handling multiple priorities with grace.
- Critical Thinker: Sharp analytical skills and ability to constructively resolve challenges!
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years in a PSM or RMP regulated environment.
- Functional Safety Certifications (Certified Safety Specialist, Certified Industrial Hygienist), or Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is a plus.
- Experience in Fire Loss and Prevention activities including involvement with insurance carrier.
- Experience designing and implementing strategies/programs/processes that support a business strategy.
