The Process Safety Engineer serves as a key technical resource supporting multiple production facilities within the SNF Oil & Gas Division. This role partners closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and EHS teams to strengthen process safety performance, improve risk management practices, and support safe, reliable, and efficient operations across the organization.
The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for driving implementation and continuous improvement of Process Safety Management (PSM) programs while supporting operational excellence and regulatory compliance initiatives. This position provides technical leadership across multiple facilities and works with site leadership teams to identify hazards, reduce operational risk, and promote a strong process safety culture.
The successful candidate will possess practical knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 (PSM), EPA 40 CFR 68 (RMP), and recognized industry best practices related to process safety and risk management.
This position is ideally based at one of the company's primary production facilities to maximize field engagement and operational support; however, location flexibility may be considered for the right candidate.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure assigned sites stay in compliance with SNF Corporate PSM Policies and Procedures at all times
- Serve as day-to-day process safety contact for plants/sites assigned
- Coordinate/Administer MOC program across assigned sites
- Conduct / Lead Contractor field audits at assigned locations
- Ensure Process Safety Information for both process and equipment file is accurate, maintained, and readily available
- Maintain awareness of applicable industry codes and standards
- Participate in and/or Lead Incident Investigations related to process safety
- Serve as site representative for process safety related audits/inspections, both internal and external
- Conduct internal audits of site activities related to Employee Participation, Operating Procedures, and Training
- Coordinate site process safety activities to ensure PHAs, audits, and other required activities are completed on schedule
- Coordinate and participate in HAZOP studies and process hazard analyses
- Lead PHAs as assigned
- Participate/Lead in Dust Hazard Analysis for combustible dusts for plants/sites assigned, as applicable
- Train and support employees regarding process safety requirements, company programs, and best practices
- Participate in knowledge sharing with other site Process Safety Engineers to share best practices
- Develop understanding and application of Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
- Report on PSM/RMP program activities to management
- Use and continue to develop software used to administer portions of PSM/RMP program
- Travel to assigned production facilities to provide field support, audits, assessments, and program implementation assistance
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
- CCPSC, PE, or CSP certifications preferred
- Minimum 3+ years of relevant industrial experience, preferably in one or more of the following areas:
- Chemical manufacturing
- Oil & Gas production or processing
- Process Safety Management
- Operations
- Maintenance
- Engineering
- Occupational Safety
- Experience supporting multiple facilities or geographically distributed operations preferred
- Working knowledge of:
- OSHA Process Safety Management (29 CFR 1910.119)
- EPA Risk Management Program (40 CFR 68)
- Process hazard analysis methodologies
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques
- Strong organizational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including leading technical discussions and cross-functional meetings
- Ability to build effective working relationships at all organizational levels
- Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative and commitment to continuous improvement
- Experience with PSM management software systems such as VelocityEHS, PHAPro, PHAWorks, ABS Leader, or equivalent systems preferred
